The Ondo State Police Command has defended the arrest of six suspected fraudsters in Idanre, saying the operation followed due process and established criminal investigation procedures.
In a press release issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command said the arrests were made in connection with an alleged “miracle scam” and were carried out in compliance with the law.
“The arrest in question was conducted in strict compliance with due process and established criminal investigation procedures,” the statement said. “At no time were laid-down operational guidelines compromised.”
The Command, led by Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal, was responding to allegations published on March 2, 2026, by SaharaReporters concerning the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
According to the police, the suspects made confessional statements both in writing and in video-recorded formats during the investigation.
“The suspects voluntarily made confessional statements in both written and video-recorded formats, wherein they alluded to their involvement in the alleged offence,” Jimoh stated. “These statements were duly obtained in accordance with extant legal provisions and will form part of the evidence to be relied upon in the course of prosecution.”
Despite defending the operation, the Command said it had ordered a full investigation into the allegations raised.
“The allegation has been formally noted, and the Command has ordered a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation to ascertain the facts of the matter,” the statement added. “This investigation will be comprehensive and independent, in line with the Command’s unwavering commitment to accountability and professionalism.”
Police authorities also called on individuals who raised the complaints to come forward with relevant information and evidence to support the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police also denied any involvement in directing anyone to collect money on his behalf or for any purpose.
“The Commissioner of Police categorically states that he has never directed, and will under no circumstances direct, any person to collect money for any purpose whatsoever,” the statement said, stressing that such conduct would violate the ethical standards and anti-corruption stance of the police.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to community-centred policing and assured residents that anyone found culpable after the investigation would face the law.
“The Ondo State Police Command remains steadfast in its dedication to community-centred policing and the protection of lives and property across the state,” Jimoh said. “Any officer or individual found culpable, following the outcome of the investigation, will be dealt with decisively and in accordance with the law.”
Members of the public were also encouraged to cooperate with the police by providing credible information and reporting complaints through official channels as the Command works to maintain security and public trust.
