Troops Arrest Suspected Militia Member in Benue Community

-

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested a suspected high-profile criminal during an intelligence-driven operation in Agasha Village, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, following a reported attack on a resident.

According to a statement by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, the operation was launched on March 13, 2026, after security agencies received credible information about an attack on a resident, Mr Shaapera Seeta Michael.

Zubairu explained that troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion XI, deployed under Operation Whirl Stroke, immediately mobilised to the community to track down the suspect linked to the assault.

“Acting swiftly on the report, troops mobilised to the affected area and cordoned the location to prevent the suspect from escaping while conducting a targeted search operation aimed at identifying and apprehending the alleged attacker,” he said.

He added that the suspected militia member, identified as Mr Suurnen David Akum, 27, from Agasha Village in Guma Local Government Area, was subsequently arrested during the operation.

“A locally fabricated rifle was also recovered from the suspect during the arrest. The suspect is currently under investigation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action,” Zubairu stated.

The Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and tactical approach, which led to the successful apprehension.

Gara urged the soldiers to sustain the operational momentum and remain vigilant in ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of operation in the area. #Securitynewsalert.com
