The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has raised alarm over the redeployment of two senior police officers currently facing allegations of misconduct to sensitive units within the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja.
In a petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the RULAAC called for an urgent investigation and administrative review of the decision to reassign SP Bologi Abdullahi and SP Giwa Abdul.
“These officers have been subjects of multiple allegations and petitions bordering on abuse of office, corruption, extortion, and other forms of unprofessional conduct,” wrote Okechukwu Nwanguma, Executive Director of RULAAC.
The petition expressed concern that despite ongoing investigations, the officers were redeployed to oversee critical divisions such as cybercrime and tactical investigation.
“It is deeply troubling that officers reportedly under investigation by relevant police units have been reassigned to positions of responsibility rather than being placed on administrative hold,” the document stated.
RULAAC argued that the move undermines public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and contradicts reform efforts aimed at promoting accountability.
“The elevation or retention of officers facing serious allegations of misconduct undermines public trust and weakens the credibility of ongoing police reform initiatives,” Nwanguma emphasised.
The petition requested immediate administrative suspension of the officers pending the outcome of investigations, a transparent inquiry into the allegations, and clarification from FCID leadership on the rationale behind the redeployments.
“The integrity of the Nigeria Police Force is fundamental to the rule of law and democratic governance,” the petition concluded. “Failure to address these concerns decisively risks further erosion of public confidence. #Securitynewsalert.com
