IGP Disu Decorates 13 AIGs, 17 CPs, Tasks Officers on Discipline and Leadership

-

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated 30 newly promoted senior officers, including 13 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs), following the recent elevation of 84 senior officers across the Force.

The decoration ceremony, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall in Abuja, also comes after the promotion of 54 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).

Addressing the officers, the IGP described the promotions as recognition of merit, discipline, and capacity, stressing that they go beyond rewards.

“These elevations are not merely rewards but a strategic investment in leadership to meet the national demand for a more effective, accountable, and responsive Police Force,” Disu said.

He charged the newly decorated officers to lead by example, warning that the Force would maintain zero tolerance for misconduct.

“You must uphold discipline and professionalism at all times. There will be zero tolerance for indiscipline, corruption, or dereliction of duty within your commands,” he stated.

Reiterating his vision for a reformed police system, the IGP emphasised the importance of community-focused policing and respect for human rights.

“Respect for human rights and active community engagement remain non-negotiable operational principles,” he added.

Disu further announced that all newly promoted AIGs would participate in a mandatory Strategic Leadership Retreat beginning March 24, 2026. The retreat, organised in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, is aimed at strengthening leadership capacity and modern policing ethics among senior officers.

Among the newly decorated AIGs are Christopher Ado Emmanuel, Joseph Eribo, Miller Gajere Dantawaye, Henry Ifeanyi Uche, Olanrewaju Peter Ogunlowo, Mohammed Dahiru, Dankombo Faling Morris, Bello Shehu, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, Ahmed Musa, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, Simeon Udofia Akpanudom, and Haruna Olufemi.

Also decorated were several Commissioners of Police, including Abdulrahim Audu Shaibu, Sarah Idowu Ehindero, and Rebbecca Uchenna Okereke.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries such as Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy Senate President; Patience Jonathan; retired IGP Sunday Ehindero; and Placid Njoku.

Others present included representatives of state governments and security institutions, underscoring the significance of the ceremony in the ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
