The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Tijani Fatai, declared today that the command under his watch has arrested 47 suspects and recovered a significant cache of arms.

The CP made this disclosure during a press conference where he showcased several vehicles and weapons recovered by the command.

The display of exhibits and the subsequent interaction with members of the press marked his first major briefing since taking the helm of the state’s security apparatus. Standing before an array of exhibits, the display included 14 firearms, nearly one hundred rounds of live ammunition, and 14 stolen vehicles.

CP Fatai attributed the Command’s recent successes to a shift toward intelligence-led policing and deeper community integration.

“It is with a great sense of professional fulfilment that I stand before you today,” he said. “These arrests and recoveries are outcomes of deliberate, intelligence-led strategies and community partnership, emplaced by the Command to combat crime and criminality across Lagos State.”

The CP explained that within the short period under review, his officers successfully arrested 47 suspects linked to various offences, including armed robbery, cultism, conspiracy, and the unlawful possession of firearms. Among the seized items were ten locally made guns, four pump-action rifles, and a significant quantity of 5.2mm live ammunition.

Beyond the tactical arrests, the CP expressed particular satisfaction with the security landscape during the recent holiday period.

He noted that the Command’s proactive deployment at worship centres, recreational venues, and highways resulted in a peaceful environment for the public.

“The Command recorded no major security breach during the period, a testament to our preparedness, vigilance, and collaboration with other security agencies and law-abiding residents,” Fatai remarked.

Addressing the future of security in the nation’s commercial hub, the Commissioner struck a resolute tone, promising that the current momentum would not only be sustained but intensified. He emphasised that visibility policing would remain a cornerstone of his strategy to deter criminal elements.

“The Lagos State Police Command remains resolute and unwavering in its commitment to the safety and security of all residents,” he said. “We will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations and strengthen community engagement to ensure that Lagos remains a safe and secure environment for all.”

Aside from the recovered weapons, the Command displayed 29 mobile phones, two laptops, and other incriminating items recovered from various crime scenes, signalling a wide-reaching crackdown on both violent and property-related crimes across the state.
