Suspects arrested for possession of Indian hemp, theft of N1.2m

Operatives attached to Zamfara State Police Command have arrested four suspects for possession of illicit drugs and for theft of N1.2million.

The first set of suspects, Hussaini Abubakar, 47,  Yusha’ Ibrahim, 19 and Abdulmalik Aliyu, 20, were arrested for possession of dried weed suspected to be Indian hemp, while the second set Bello Mohammed, 40 and Umar Mercy, who is now at large, were busted for breaking and entering and carting items and money valued at N1.2million.

The Police Image maker in the state, Mohammed Shehu, a sack containing dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp and other different types of hard drugs was discovered on Hussaini, Ibrahim and Aliyu.

Shehu said: “Between 12th and 13th November 2022, Police Operatives while on surveillance patrol within Gusau metro intercepted and arrested the above-mentioned suspects. On spot search, a large quantity of dried leaf suspected to be Indian hemp and different types of hard drugs were recovered in their possession. Intelligence information revealed that the suspected Indian hemp and drugs would be supplied to bandits in the forest. During the interrogation, all the suspects confessed to the crime and are currently assisting the Police with useful information for more arrest and recovery.”

Shehu also explained that on the 12th of November 2022, Police detectives arrested Bello, following a complaint of shop breaking and theft at old Market Gusau sometime in August, 2022.

“According to the complainant, the value of the clothing materials stolen in the shop was N700,000 and also the sum of N500,000 was equally stolen by the suspects. In the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and further stated that he conspired with Umar Mercy to break the shop and committed the act.”
