Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully repelled an attempted attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Magumeri, Borno State, neutralising scores of insurgents and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition.
The Nigerian Army disclosed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, May 7, 2026, when terrorists attempted to infiltrate the military location under poor visibility conditions.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer at Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, troops gallantly resisted the assault despite minor breaches recorded in an isolated section of the camp.
“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, in the early hours of 7 May 2026, successfully contained an attack by ISWAP terrorists on Forward Operating Base MAGUMERI under Sector 3,” he said.
He explained that although the terrorists managed to penetrate a small section of the base, soldiers mounted a fierce resistance that decisively defeated the attackers.
“Impressively, troops fought gallantly and decisively contained and defeated the attack by neutralising scores of the terrorists,” Uba stated.
The Army spokesperson said subsequent exploitation of the surrounding area revealed “extensive blood trails, body drags and the recovery of terrorist corpses,” which he said confirmed the heavy casualties suffered by the insurgents during the failed assault.
He added that troops recovered a significant cache of weapons abandoned by fleeing terrorists, including PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, AK-47 rifles and magazines.
However, the military confirmed that two soldiers were killed during the encounter, while an officer and several wounded personnel are receiving treatment.
“Regrettably, two gallant soldiers paid the supreme price in the course of the battle, while an officer and other wounded personnel are currently stable and receiving appropriate medical attention,” Uba said.
He also disclosed that some equipment and temporary structures within the camp were damaged by fire during the intense exchange.
The military said troops are continuing exploitation operations in the area to consolidate gains and assess additional battle damage.
