The Nigeria Police Force has dismantled a major IPOB/ESN enclave in Nguru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State and recovered a cache of arms.

The successful operation, which took place on April 23, 2026, was announced on May 10, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The tactical raid was fueled by actionable intelligence derived from the confessional statement of a high-ranking IPOB/ESN commander, Ebube Uchenna Mmaduakolam, popularly known as “Ebube Virus.”

During the encounter, police operatives apprehended three suspects who are currently in lawful custody. These individuals are reportedly providing the Force with vital information regarding the group’s logistics, personnel hierarchy, and upcoming operational plans.

Following a comprehensive search of the hideout, the police recovered a substantial arsenal that underscores the group’s violent capabilities.

The seized items include two General-Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), 3,115 rounds of GPMG ammunition, an AK-47 assault rifle, and a pump-action shotgun. Furthermore, the recovery included several surveillance drones and Biafran currency in various denominations, indicating a sophisticated level of technical and financial organisation.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu has officially commended the Imo State Police Command for their courage and tactical precision. According to the IGP, the recovery of this weaponry significantly degrades the operational capacity of extremist networks in the South-East region.

This achievement reflects the Force’s ongoing commitment to suppressing violent extremism and upholding the rule of law to ensure the safety of all Nigerian citizens.
