Nigeria-U.S. joint strikes kill 175 ISIS fighters in North East, eliminate top operative

-

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has announced that joint counterterrorism strikes carried out with the United States Africa Command have killed 175 ISIS terrorists in North East Nigeria, including one of the most significant ISIS operatives in the world.

The operations, which began several days ago, have also destroyed ISIS checkpoints, weapons caches, logistical hubs, military equipment and financial networks used to sustain terrorist activity in the region.

Among those killed is Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described by authorities as a central figure in ISIS external operations who coordinated terrorist financing, recruitment, logistics and attack planning against Nigerians and civilians globally. His death, officials said, severely disrupts ISIS command structures and external attack networks.

The Defence Headquarters said the strikes reinforce the armed forces’ longstanding commitment to hunting down terrorists wherever they operate in Nigeria, and pledged that joint operations would continue targeting those who threaten national and regional stability.
