EFCC Chief Apologises to NMA, Hospital Don Over Uyo Incident, Orders Probe

-

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, has directed the anti-graft agency to tender a formal apology to Professor Eyo Ekpe and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) following a recent altercation at the Uyo University Teaching Hospital (UUTH).

The directive follows the Chairman’s receipt and review of a preliminary report investigating the May 12, 2026, confrontation between EFCC personnel and medical staff at the university teaching hospital.

Professor Ekpe serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at UUTH.

In a statement addressing the fallout, Mr Olukoyede expressed deep regret over the discomfort the “unfortunate episode” caused both the hospital staff and the general public. While emphasising that safeguarding the well-being of Nigerians remains central to the commission’s core mandate, he assured stakeholders that administrative lapses would not be overlooked.

“Any officer found to have acted outside of the acceptable code of professional conduct will be subjected to internal disciplinary processes,” Olukoyede stated, reiterating that a full-scale investigation into the incident is actively underway.

The EFCC boss emphasised his determination to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to resolve the lingering issues and forestall similar friction in the future. However, he maintained that the incident would not deter the commission from aggressively executing its anti-corruption mandate across Nigeria.

Rounding off his address, Olukoyede called on the NMA and other professional bodies to maintain their support for the EFCC in its ongoing mission to rid the country of economic and financial crimes. #Securitynewsalert.com
