The Delta State Police Command has recorded major operational successes in its ongoing crackdown on crime across the state, leading to the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of a locally made revolver pistol, dangerous weapons, and 10 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said operatives attached to the Asaba Area Command and the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) carried out the successful operations on May 29 and May 30, 2026.
According to the statement, operatives of the Asaba Area Command surveillance team, while on routine patrol behind the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) premises in Asaba at about 5:30 a.m. on May 30, intercepted three suspects identified as Musa Sule, 22, Moses Sunday, 26, and Osama Ibrahim, 25.
“The suspects were intercepted based on reasonable suspicion and subsequently searched by the operatives,” the statement said.
During the search, police recovered a locally made revolver pistol and other dangerous weapons from the suspects. The trio was immediately arrested, while the recovered exhibits were taken into police custody.
Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the suspects’ involvement in other criminal activities.
In a separate operation conducted at about 4:00 a.m. on May 29, operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on intelligence, intercepted an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon with registration number BEN 982 TE along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway.
The vehicle was occupied by two suspects identified as Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, popularly known as “Big Joe.”
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 10 bags containing substances suspected to be cannabis, which had been concealed inside the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspected illicit drugs were being transported from Edo State to Awka in Anambra State before the suspects were intercepted by the police operatives.
“The suspects have been taken into custody, while the exhibits have been secured as evidence. Investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of the criminal network involved and to identify other accomplices connected to the illicit trade,” the statement added.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised their commitment to duty and urged them to sustain the momentum in the fight against crime.
The police commissioner also warned individuals involved in the unlawful possession of firearms, drug trafficking, cult-related activities, and other criminal acts to desist or face the full weight of the law. #Securitynewsalert.com
