Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu has directed investigators and heads of investigative units nationwide to prioritise accurate data capture and management of suspects’ information, as the Nigeria Police Force steps up efforts to modernise its criminal investigation framework.
Disu made the charge on Tuesday at the opening of a one-day Crime and Incident Database Impact Sensitisation Workshop organised by the Force’s Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The workshop focused on the Suspects’ Information Capturing Process under the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database Centre Project — a strategic initiative aimed at improving crime analysis, intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and proactive crime prevention.
“Modern policing is increasingly driven by timely, accurate, and actionable data,” Disu said, stressing that law enforcement can no longer rely solely on conventional investigative methods.
The IGP described the Crime and Incident Database Centre as a critical national asset capable of tracking criminal trends, identifying repeat offenders, linking crimes across jurisdictions, and supporting evidence-based decision-making.
He called for stricter compliance with suspects’ information capturing procedures across all commands and formations, and urged workshop participants to develop practical solutions to strengthen the Force’s crime management architecture.
The workshop is part of the IGP’s broader push to modernise Nigerian policing through technology and intelligence-led strategies. #Securitynewsalert.com
