Abia Police Arrests Man Seen in Viral Video Assaulting Woman

-

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Agwu Ukpo, who was captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a woman identified as Amarachi Chiyere during a dispute over a pot of soup.

The suspect, a native of Akanu Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, was apprehended by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following actionable intelligence.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the case is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The Police said the suspect is expected to face charges bordering on assault and attempted murder upon the conclusion of investigations.

Condemning the incident, the Abia State Police Command described the act as barbaric, inhumane, and a clear case of domestic violence.

The Command reiterated that violence in any form is unacceptable and warned members of the public against engaging in acts that threaten the safety and well-being of others.

It further assured residents of its commitment to ensuring justice is served and that perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to book. #Securitynewsalert.com
