Many people unknowingly make their homes more vulnerable to crime by leaving certain items carelessly around their compounds. Objects that appear harmless can become tools in the hands of intruders.
Items such as ladders, cutlasses, shovels, iron pipes, knives, old refrigerators, mortars, pestles, and other heavy or sharp objects should be properly stored or disposed of when they are no longer in use. Criminals can use these items to break into homes, damage property, or even escape after committing an offence. A ladder left against a wall or close to a fence, for example, can provide easy access into or out of a compound.
Keeping your surroundings tidy and securing potentially dangerous tools is a simple but effective security measure. Every household should regularly inspect its compound and remove or safely store items that could be used to aid criminal activities.
Quote: A simple item left carelessly in your compound can become a criminal’s tool. Secure your environment before someone else takes advantage of it.
Just be good. Reflect. Stay alert.
