The Nigeria Police Force has celebrated the historic Commonwealth Games gold medal won by one of its officers, Corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel, describing the achievement as a testament to the Force’s commitment to sports development, personnel welfare, and excellence.
In a statement issued on August 1, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Police said Nathaniel delivered a commanding performance in the men’s 400 metres hurdles final at the ongoing Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, crossing the finish line in 48.47 seconds to secure the gold medal.
According to the statement, the victory marks a significant improvement from Nathaniel’s sixth-place finish at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and reflects his determination, discipline, and resilience.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Riliwan Disu, congratulated the athlete for bringing honour to both Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force on the international stage.
The IGP noted that Nathaniel’s achievement serves as an inspiration to police officers across the country, demonstrating the rewards of dedication and excellence.
