NPF Completes Counter-Terrorism Training in Morocco, IGP Disu Renews Commitment to Global Peace

-

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has completed its participation in a specialised counter-terrorism investigations training programme in Rabat, Morocco, with the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to combating terrorism both locally and globally.

The Specialised Training on Counter-Terrorism Investigations Train-the-Trainer Programme ran from July 13 to 31, 2026, and was organised by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) under its Global Counter-Terrorism Investigations Programme, in partnership with Al Akhawayn University. The programme drew law enforcement personnel from Nigeria, Kenya, and Burkina Faso, aimed at deepening institutional cooperation and professional capacity in the fight against terrorism, violent extremism, and transnational crime.

Nigeria’s ten-member delegation was led by ACP Favour Fadawa of the Nigeria Police Academy. Participants focused on strengthening investigative skills and intelligence-led approaches to counter-terrorism, including identifying threat networks, dismantling criminal structures, preserving admissible evidence, and upholding accountability within the rule of law.

Speaking on the outcome of the training, IGP Disu said effective counter-terrorism investigation remains central to both national and global security efforts. He noted that the skills gained by officers would strengthen the Force’s operational capacity to tackle increasingly complex and evolving security threats.

The IGP has directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, along with the Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, to ensure the training outcomes are swiftly institutionalised. He also disclosed that plans for a proposed Executive Master’s Programme at the Nigeria Police Academy are at an advanced stage of accreditation.

IGP Disu commended UNOCT and its partners for organising the initiative and expressed appreciation to the Moroccan government and people for their hospitality throughout the training.

The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to building a modern, intelligence-driven, and professionally competent policing institution capable of tackling terrorism and transnational crime while contributing to regional and global peace.
