The African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) is celebrating a major milestone this year as the AWLA Parley marks its 10th Anniversary, with the Association’s founder, Hon. Betty Mould-Iddrisu, sending a goodwill message praising the platform’s growth and impact across the continent.
In her message, addressed to AWLA Nigeria’s Country Representative, Ms Falilat Oluwatoyin Orire, and AWLA President Ms Mandy Demechi-Asagba, Mould-Iddrisu described the anniversary as more than a symbolic date.
“This milestone is not merely a celebration of time, but a testament to resilience, purpose, and the enduring strength of sisterhood,” she said.
She noted that over the past ten years, the Parley has evolved into a key platform for women in the legal profession. “The AWLA Parley has grown into a powerful platform for dialogue, mentorship, advocacy, and collective advancement of women in the legal profession across Africa and beyond,” Mould-Iddrisu stated, crediting the achievement to “unwavering dedication, strategic leadership, and passion.”
The AWLA founder also used the occasion to commend past Country Representatives and members of the Executive Committee of AWLA Nigeria for their leadership. “Your contributions have significantly strengthened AWLA’s presence and impact, and have inspired a new generation of women lawyers to lead with courage and integrity,” she said.
Extending appreciation to members across Africa and the diaspora, Mould-Iddrisu thanked them for their “sacrifices,” “commitment,” and continued belief in the Association’s founding vision, adding that their efforts “continue to advance the cause of justice, equality, and empowerment for women and girls.”
She called on members to remain united going forward. “Let us continue to support one another, to mentor the next generation, and to work collaboratively towards the realisation of our shared goals,” she urged.
Mould-Iddrisu also announced that AWLA will hold its International Conference in Accra, Ghana, from 18th to 22nd November 2026, describing it as a gathering that “promises to be a significant moment for reflection, networking, and charting the future of our Association.” She invited members across the continent and diaspora to attend.
She closed her message with congratulations to organisers and members marking the anniversary. “May the AWLA Parley continue to flourish and serve as a beacon of excellence and inspiration for many years to come,” she said.
