The Nigeria Police Force has been plunged into mourning following a deadly banditry attack in Makuku village, Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State on the 10th of August 2026, which claimed the lives of 10 police officers and two civilians, with several firearms stolen during the assault.
According to reports, the incident occurred during a gun battle between Mobile Police Force (PMF) personnel and bandits.
The officers, deployed from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, were on special duty in the area when they were ambushed.
A team led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sakaba Division, DSP Umaru Bagudu, visited the scene and confirmed the deaths of the following officers:
ASP Bala Buba, 43, Inspector Saminu Sulaiman, 40, Inspector Solomon Jatau, 39, Inspector Ayuba Hassain, 38, Inspector Umar Yahuza, 37, Inspector Auwal Sani, 38, Sergeant Jimoh Momo, 35, Corporal Ukpong Otrukmj, 34, Inspector Adamu Abdullahi, 35 and Inspector Abdullahi Magaji, 43.
Two civilians, Muhammadu Magwagwara (50) and Muhammadu Tiritiri (45), were also killed. 
Another civilian, Shehu Abubakar (41), sustained serious gunshot injuries and was transferred to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Birnin Kebbi for advanced treatment.
The victims’ bodies were taken to General Hospital Dirin Daji, where they were confirmed dead.
Authorities reported that the attackers carted away significant weaponry, including one RPG rifle, two riot guns, ten AK-47 rifles, and other ammunition.
Security agencies are continuing investigations into the incident, which has raised concerns about the escalating violence in the region.
