#FBI Court Filing Says Tinubu Was Subject of US Investigation in 1990s Drug Case — SaharaReporters

-

A sworn declaration filed by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has stated that records involving Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were compiled during an investigation into multiple individuals for alleged drug trafficking crimes, SaharaReporters has reported.

According to the report, the declaration was submitted to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia on August 28, 2026.

The FBI stated in the court filing that the records being considered were connected to an investigation into several people.

“The responsive records herein were compiled in furtherance of the FBI’s investigation of multiple individuals for drug trafficking crimes,” the FBI said in the declaration.

In simple terms, the statement means the FBI has told the court that the documents requested were created or gathered as part of a criminal investigation involving alleged drug trafficking activities.

SaharaReporters reported that the filing confirms that President Tinubu was among the subjects of the US investigation in the early 1990s.

The court document was reportedly obtained by Von Batten-Montague-York, a Washington-based lobbying firm hired by former Nigerian Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 Nigerian presidential election.

The lobbying firm reportedly posted information about the documents on X, saying it was reviewing a large volume of records and “carefully going through and redacting where we see fit.”

The development has renewed public attention on decades-old US records connected to investigations involving alleged drug trafficking.
