PSC Deploys Ogbeghagha As New Taraba Police Commissioner

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the posting of Commissioner of Police Edwin Ogbeghagha as the new Commissioner of Police for the Taraba State Command.

The commission disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu.

According to the PSC, the approval followed a comprehensive interview session held at its Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, and presided over by the Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd), mni.

The Commission said Ogbeghagha was tasked with demonstrating “exceptional professionalism and neutrality” in the discharge of his responsibilities.

It said the charge was particularly important as the country prepares for the 2027 General Elections, stressing the need for impartiality and public safety.

“The Commission charged the new CP to demonstrate exceptional professionalism and neutrality in his duties, emphasising the critical need for impartiality and public safety as the nation gears up for the 2027 General Elections,” the statement said.

Ogbeghagha, who has over 25 years of experience in the Nigeria Police Force, was until his new posting the Force Provost Marshal at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, a position he had held since March 2026.

The new Taraba police commissioner is a graduate of the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1990.

His policing career includes several command and operational positions, including Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, for Zones 8 and 17, as well as Area Commander in Enugu, Abia and Anambra states.

He also served as Commissioner of Police in charge of Community Policing at the Force Headquarters.

The PSC said Ogbeghagha had further gained international experience through his participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo between 2000 and 2002 and Darfur, Sudan, from 2013 to 2016.

Also involved in the process leading to his approval and posting were Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (JSC, Rtd), Commissioner I, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.
