The Niger State Police Command says it has arrested 28 suspects in connection with various criminal activities across the state, recovering several items linked to the offences.
Disclosing this during a crime briefing, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said four suspects were apprehended in connection with the killing of the Village Head of Zhilu in Munya Local Government Area, Bawa Barde, who was attacked with machetes at his residence and later died from his injuries at a medical facility. Police said preliminary investigations linked the attack to a dispute over farmland and a grazing route.
In Katcha Local Government Area, three suspects were arrested for alleged cattle theft, with the stolen cow recovered along the Bida-Minna Road.
Police also arrested nine suspected miscreants in the Kpakungu and Marikichi areas of Minna over alleged thuggery, public disturbance, and possession of dangerous weapons.
Other recoveries include a locally made pistol found at a mining site in Dogon-Ruwa, Bosso Local Government Area, and a stolen Bajaj motorcycle recovered at Diko Junction.
In Chanchaga, two suspects were arrested during a midnight raid, while a 20-year-old suspect was arrested in Maitumbi over alleged armed robbery and housebreaking.
