INTERPOL Cooperation Helps Nigeria Police Notch Major Wins Against Transnational Crime

-

Nigeria’s fight against cross-border crime recorded significant gains over the past year, according to a report released by the Nigeria Police Force through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Nigeria.

Covering the period from September 7, 2025 to August 2026, the report credits sustained international police cooperation and intelligence-sharing with law enforcement agencies worldwide for a string of successful operations.

Among the key outcomes: more than 10 fugitives were arrested, at least five international extraditions and handovers were completed, and over 60 trafficking and kidnapping victims were rescued. The operations also led to the permanent forfeiture of criminal assets worth more than ₦2 billion, alongside 43 financial crime investigations and 15 cybercrime referrals received from partner national bureaus.

Officials say the figures reflect more than statistics. Fugitives have been tracked across borders and brought closer to facing justice, trafficking and kidnapping networks have been dismantled, and rescued victims have been reunited with their families. Recovered assets and advanced financial and cybercrime probes further underscore the scope of the coordinated efforts, carried out in partnership with INTERPOL member countries spanning five continents.

“This is the impact of police cooperation without borders — connecting intelligence, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that criminals have fewer places to hide,” the Nigeria Police Force said in its statement.

The report highlights Nigeria’s growing role in global law enforcement collaboration as authorities continue to target organised crime networks operating across international lines.
