Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, rescued 12 civilians in two separate operations against terrorists in Zamfara State on September 7, 2026, according to the military.
The rescues took place in Kaura Namoda and Tsafe Local Government Areas, where troops intercepted terrorist groups and foiled their attempts to abduct residents.
In the first operation, soldiers responded to a distress call after terrorists infiltrated a home at Tsohon Tasha in Kaura Namoda LGA. Troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to release six abducted civilians and flee across a nearby river. The victims were later evacuated and reunited with their families.
In the second incident, troops on routine surveillance along the Main Supply Route in Tsafe LGA spotted terrorists attempting to intercept a Sharon vehicle at Kwanoni Village. Soldiers moved swiftly to the scene and engaged the gunmen, who abandoned the operation and retreated into nearby bush. Six civilians were rescued in that operation.
Speaking on the development, the Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the twin rescues reflected the resolve of troops to protect residents across the theatre.
“These operations show that our troops remain committed to safeguarding the lives and property of the people in this region,” Danja said, adding that the military would continue to disrupt terrorist movements and deny them freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
He further appealed to residents to keep providing security agencies with useful information, saying such cooperation was vital to the Theatre’s efforts to rid the area of terrorist elements.
