The final funeral services for Madam Elizabeth Abebi Otaru Aminu are set to commence this Wednesday, October 28, with the digging of her grave in Ikpena, Ososo, located within the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to the burial schedule, a Christian wake will be held on Thursday, October 29, followed by her interment at her residence on Friday, October 30.
Reflecting on her impactful life, veteran crime journalist Mr. Folorunsho Atta paid a moving tribute to his late aunt, remembering her as a compassionate mother figure who raised him and his siblings with unwavering maternal care.
Recalling his childhood, Atta shared personal anecdotes highlighting her stabilising influence during familial disagreements. He noted that Madam Aminu, alongside her peers affectionately known as Mummy Dada and Mama Shina, frequently intervened to resolve domestic disputes, including a memorable youthful clash over his reluctance to assist his mother with selling akara (bean cakes) before school due to his standing as the school’s “clock boy.”
“Ultimately, the situation was defused through my aunt and her mates’ intervention. They successfully persuaded me to assist my mum,” Atta recalled.
He also fondly remembered domestic milestones from his youth, noting that the first cold drink he ever tasted came from his aunt’s kerosene-powered refrigerator a cherished appliance whose fuel he once mistakenly emptied under the assumption that it was contaminated water, an incident she generously kept from his mother.
Atta added that her enduring guidance cemented his role as a primary errand runner for the wider Otaru family network throughout the 1970s, ensuring her memory will remain with him permanently.
In a related development, the remains of Pa Alake Atta’s uncle, who passed away two weeks ago, have been placed in a hospital mortuary. His final funeral rites have been scheduled to take place from December 28 to 30.
