An activist, Harrison, has expressed shock after the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) confirmed that an alleged armed robber, Mathew Nwakeme, has been granted bail by a High Court.
Nwakeme is the same individual Harrison had previously raised an alarm about, accusing him of currently terrorising the Ogwashi-Uku community in Delta State.
According to Harrison, the decision is particularly alarming because the suspect was allegedly “caught red-handed with a gun” during an armed robbery.
In a statement expressing his frustration, Harrison contrasted the court’s decision with the treatment of individuals charged with political offences.
“Someone who insults politicians can be sent to prison for years, while an armed robber caught red-handed with a gun has been granted bail within just three months,” Harrison said.
The activist’s statement highlights a perceived disparity in the justice system, questioning the decision to release a suspect facing serious allegations, including possession of firearms and terrorising a community, back into the public.
