A 16-year-old boy accused of defiling a 7-year-old girl and engaging in an incestuous relationship with his 12-year-old sister has been remanded to the Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, following proceedings at Court 2 of the Samuel Ilori Magistrate Court, Ikeja.
The case, charged by the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command, drew significant attention after the boy’s legal representative argued against remand, citing his age, education, and upcoming Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
According to the Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN), the defence lawyer approached their officer before the hearing, suggesting that the victim’s mother’s request to withdraw the case should be considered.
ACVPN rejected the proposal, stressing that “this is a crime against the state and cannot be discontinued at the victim’s mother’s request.”
In court, the defence lawyer questioned the credibility of medical results from the Mirabel Centre, claiming the institution’s reports had raised concerns.
He further appealed to the Magistrate not to apply the remand warrant, arguing that the boy’s father and uncle could stand in for him until the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) advice was issued.
The Investigating Police Officer, Supol Vera of the Gender Unit, testified that medical examinations confirmed the victim was defiled, though the accused denied involvement.
She added that the victim’s mother had pleaded for the case to be dropped, but she explained that “it is not in her place to discontinue the matter.”
After recess, the Magistrate privately questioned both the victim and the accused before reconvening.
She approved the remand warrant but assured the boy’s parents that he would still be registered for his JAMB examination while in custody.
Meanwhile, ACVPN emphasised the need for transparency in the incest allegations.
On February 17, 2026, the organisation confirmed that the boy’s sister had been taken for medical examination to verify the claims. The case has been adjourned until March 24, 2026. #Securitynewsalert.com
