Benue, Enugu Police Chiefs Forge Alliance to Combat Interstate Crime

-

The Commissioners of Police for Benue and Enugu States have met and agreed to significantly strengthen operational ties to combat the growing challenge of interstate crimes across their shared borders.

CP Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent (Benue) and CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa (Enugu) held a strategic meeting in Benue State on October 29, 2025. The core focus was to develop a joint strategy to address security challenges affecting both states, particularly the infiltration of criminal elements and their collaboration with local bad actors in border communities.

Following the discussions, the Police Commissioners resolved to enhance their interstate crime-fighting synergy. Key components of this renewed collaboration include proactively tracking and disrupting criminal networks, implementing simultaneous and complementary security activities and allocating personnel and assets to combat violent crimes in border areas.

The joint efforts will specifically target flashpoint areas such as Ado, Ogbadibo, and Okpokwu Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Benue State, and Igbo-Eze North, Isi-Uzo, and Udenu LGAs in Enugu State.

The meeting serves to solidify an already existing, successful partnership. The joint press release recalled that the two Commands recently collaborated on a major operation that resulted in the arrest of multiple criminal suspects, the rescue of kidnapped victims, and the recovery of stolen property, including vehicles, laptops, and mobile phones.

Senior operational officers from both commands attended the strategic session, which the police chiefs agreed would be held routinely to ensure the sustained efficacy of their joint efforts.
