The Benue State Police Command has convened a landmark Peace Accord signing ceremony, bringing together political party leaders, candidates, security agencies, and other stakeholders in a bid to ensure peaceful political activities ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The event, held on September 15 in Makurdi, saw the participation of state chairmen of political parties, flag bearers, representatives of sister security agencies, and civil society stakeholders. The gathering reaffirmed a collective commitment to peaceful campaigns, respect for the rule of law, and the protection of lives and property throughout the electoral period.
Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Cletus C. N. Nwadiogbu, emphasised the importance of responsible conduct among political leaders and their supporters. He issued a stern warning against the use of thugs, cult groups, or criminal elements to intimidate opponents or disrupt lawful political activities.
Following his address, political parties and candidates formally signed the Peace Accord, pledging to reject violence, respect the rights of other political actors, and cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace.
The Commissioner assured stakeholders that the Police Command would remain impartial and professional, providing adequate security for all lawful political activities. He further encouraged effective communication between political actors and security agencies, particularly regarding rallies, campaigns, and other major events.
In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu urged political leaders, candidates, supporters, and the public to uphold the spirit of the Peace Accord and work collectively toward credible and peaceful elections in Benue State.
