The Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi on Sunday 12th June 2022, announced that the four policemen attached to popular Nigerian Grammy award winner, Burna Boy, have been arrested and might be charged with attempted murder of two at Victoria Island, Lagos State.

The policemen were arrested for allegedly opening fire inside Club Cubana on Victoria Island, causing two men to sustain bullet wounds. It was also gathered that the injured men were later rushed to the hospital for surgeries to remove bullets lodged in their bodies.

The incident, it was gathered, occurred on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

However, while the four policemen were in the detention facility, waiting for further debriefing and possible defaulting, the Burna Boy was alleged to have flown out of the country following the incident.

It was also gathered that trouble started after Burna Boy made advances at a married woman at the Club Cubana, which her husband did not find funny. He was also said to have made his feelings known.

In the process, one of the policemen was said to have opened fire in the club. The flying bullets landed on two men, causing them to be rushed to hospital.

The Lagos State Police Command had earlier stated that it was only interested in the misconduct of the policemen and misuse of a firearm.

In a press statement today, Adejobi said: “The Police personnel alleged and identified in the shooting incident at Club Cubana in Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, have been taken into custody and are being investigated for their involvement in the incident. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, who describes the circumstances surrounding the incident as unbelievable, has however condemned, in the strongest terms, the unfortunate incident.  Consequently, the IGP has directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and forward his report as urgently as possible for further action.”
