Calls for Justice as Hearing Opens in Alleged Murder of Deborah Okwori

-

A court hearing in the alleged murder case of Deborah Okwori is scheduled to be held on January 30 at the Magistrate Court, Yaba, with proceedings expected to begin by 8:00 a.m.

Deborah, described by family and supporters as a successful young professional in the interior design industry, was allegedly murdered by her former boyfriend, Lintex Ogale. According to accounts from supporters of the deceased, the relationship between the two reportedly ended after Ogale allegedly became violent, prompting Deborah to cut off communication with him.

Supporters claim that about two years after the relationship ended, Ogale allegedly broke into Deborah’s residence armed with a knife and stabbed her multiple times, resulting in her death. The suspect has since been apprehended and is currently on remand.

Concerned parties, however, expressed worry over what they described as delays in the judicial process, noting that the case is yet to be transferred from the Magistrate’s Court to the High Court, where serious criminal cases are typically prosecuted.

Advocates seeking justice for the late Deborah are calling on journalists, civil society groups, activists, and members of the public to attend the court proceedings in solidarity. They urged stakeholders and residents of Lagos to support the pursuit of justice and raise awareness about the case.

The hearing is expected to draw attention to the circumstances surrounding Deborah’s death and the progress of the legal proceedings against the suspect.
