The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Badagry Branch in Lagos State, has raised an alarm over a suspected fake lawyer currently facing criminal charges at Magistrate Court 2, Badagry Magisterial District in Badagry.
According to L.A. Rashidi, Esq., the suspect, identified as Daniel Segun Ogunsanya, allegedly operated under the false identity of “Godwin Egwabor” to carry out fraudulent legal activities. Rashidi disclosed that the suspect is currently facing a two-count charge before the court.
Reports indicate that the suspect allegedly accepted legal briefs and appeared in court under the assumed name. In some cases, he was said to have outsourced such briefs to unsuspecting qualified lawyers after charging clients exorbitant fees.
Sources revealed that although Ogunsanya was granted bail, he has reportedly absconded. He was said to have relocated from his former residence along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway to a village near Diya Gate along the Agbara-Atan Road, close to Agbara in Ogun State.
The NBA leadership has urged its branches in Ogun State to remain vigilant and monitor developments concerning the suspect. The association also called on NBA chairmen across the country to help publicise the information to prevent further fraudulent activities.
The case has been adjourned to February 18, 2026, for further hearing.
The NBA further suggested that its National General Secretary may notify the Inspector-General of Police to facilitate steps toward declaring the suspect wanted, amid fears that he may attempt to establish another fraudulent legal practice in a different location.
