The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) joins the rest of the world, including duty bearers, citizens, civil society advocates, Gender Justice movements, and international development partners in collective action at local, national, regional, and international levels to draw attention to the alarming escalation of violence against women and Girls across the world.
Despite global and local efforts, nearly one in three women have experienced violence in Nigeria.
These numbers are staggering and unacceptable.
Centre LSD which serves as the National Secretariate for the Side-by-Side Movement for Gender Justice, is passionate about revitalizing commitments and call for accountability and action from decision-makers.
In commemoration of the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, “an annual international campaign which kicks off on 25th November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and girls and runs through to 10th December, Human Rights Day”, the 2024 16days of Activism has a line up of activities to magnify voices to end violence against women and Girls.
To this end, Centre LSD is organising some activities including:
• A symbolic Orange Day Walk tagged ‘Gender Justice Walk’ to raise public awareness and solidarity for the elimination of violence against women and girls on November 25, 2024. Advocates, Leaders, the Media, women, and supporters of Women and Girls causes are encouraged to dress in Orange or have a touch of Orange in their attire as a symbol of their support in raising awareness for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. Gender Justice walk extends to Benue, Kano, Taraba, Ekiti, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Plateau, Edo, Ondo and Delta to address the unique challenges faced through the Side-by-Side Movement for Gender Justice
• High-Level Advocacy that features Interviews with members of the National Assembly and prominent traditional leaders to advocate for stronger policies and community engagement on GBV.
• Podcast Series will feature Thematic discussions on GBV prevention and elimination, shared on Centre LSD’s YouTube channel and other platforms.
• Infographic Campaign begins on 25th November and runs for 16days, with daily posting of powerful messages and visuals to educate and inspire action against GBV
• Radio Program
• A targeted radio campaign to amplify awareness and engage broader audiences
• Sensitization visits to IDP Camps/Shelters
Outreach activities in FCT, Benue, Kano, Taraba, Ekiti, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Plateau, Edo, Ondo and Delta to address the unique challenges faced by women and girls (including displaced women and girls and people with disability) and provide support
• Regional Engagement that will hold collaborative sessions with stakeholders in Northern and Southern Nigeria to drive localized solutions to GBV.
By focusing on these strategic interventions, Centre LSD and its partners will contribute to a unified global movement to end violence against women and girls, ensuring no one is left behind.
