CP Giwa Orders Better Treatment of Detainees After Surprise Visit to Enugu CID

-

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered improved handling of cases and humane treatment of detainees following an unscheduled inspection of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Cell.

Giwa carried out the visit on April 14, 2026, where he assessed conditions at the detention facility, interacted with suspects and officers on duty, and reviewed ongoing investigations, including cases involving capital offences.

During the inspection, the police boss directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID to strictly adhere to statutory procedures and ensure suspects are treated in line with established legal standards.

He also stressed the importance of timely and thorough investigations, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, urging officers to properly document cases and charge them to court promptly where necessary.

The visit, according to the Command, is part of broader efforts to strengthen accountability, improve detention conditions, and promote professionalism in investigative processes across its units. #Securitynewsalert.com
