The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects in separate operations in Ughelli North and Ika South Local Government Areas of the state, recovering two firearms, a live cartridge and other items.
The operations were carried out by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) and the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) following intelligence reports on suspected criminal activities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said CP-SAT operatives arrested a 29-year-old suspect, Thankgod Ejakpomewhe, during a raid on Ujode Community in Ughelli North on October 16, 2026.
Edafe said the operation followed credible intelligence about the activities of a suspected armed robbery syndicate allegedly terrorising the community.
According to him, a locally made long gun and a live cartridge were recovered from the suspect, while other suspected members of the syndicate fled.
He added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation on October 15, operatives of SAKU, Ubuluku, arrested four suspects during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Alisimen Community, Ika South Local Government Area.
The suspects were identified as Okwunzuwa Rubben, 28; John Onyeka, 42; Uzoma Ifeyinwa, 20; and Osas Atoe, 22.
The police spokesperson said the operation led to the recovery of a double-barrelled pump-action firearm, a laptop, six mobile phones, a camouflage cap and a jacket.
He added that a further search of the suspects’ residence resulted in the recovery of five live cartridges.
“Investigation is ongoing,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for their diligence and reiterated the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and curbing the illegal circulation of firearms.
Erale warned criminal elements to abandon their activities or face decisive action within the law.
He also urged residents to support the police with credible and timely information that could assist in preventing and detecting crime across the state.
