Delta Police Arrests Suspected Drug Dealer, Recovers 21 Bags of Suspected Indian Hemp

-

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 56-year-old suspected drug dealer and recovered 21 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp during an intelligence-led operation in Ukwani Local Government Area.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that the operation was carried out on August 8, 2026, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following credible intelligence.

According to the statement, the officers raided a suspected criminal hideout at Owa-Abbi, where they arrested the suspect, identified as Lucky Oyiboka. A search of the premises allegedly led to the recovery of 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs. The Command added that investigations have been expanded to uncover the full extent of the suspected drug network and identify other accomplices.

The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the arrest reflects the Command’s commitment to the crime-fighting initiatives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, through intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal networks.

He urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to the police, assuring that the identities of informants would be treated with strict confidentiality.
