Delta Police Arrests Suspected Kidnappers, Armed Robbers, Recovers AK-47, Vehicles, Network Jammer

-

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing clampdown on criminal activities, leading to the arrest of suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, as well as the recovery of dangerous weapons and vehicles.

Acting on intelligence, operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ekpan Division, CSP Labe Joseph, on September 12, 2025, arrested two suspected criminals — Elvis Ebroghro (36) and Abiola Adegore (34), both residents of Ometan Community.

Preliminary investigations revealed that on September 11, a community security guard, Abdullahi Mohammed, caught the duo attempting to steal a vehicle battery. The suspects allegedly threatened to kill him if he reported the incident.

Following Ebroghro’s confession, the police intensified operations and apprehended another key suspect, Lucky Ebroghro. A follow-up operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle concealed inside an abandoned building in Ometan, linked to the gang.
Investigations are ongoing.

On September 8, 2025, at about 1:30 a.m., the Command received a distress call reporting the abduction of a young man at his residence in Ogwashi-Uku. The victim, who was shot in the leg after his abductors collected a ransom of ₦2 million, was rescued by the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad led by CSP Godwin Osadolor.

The operatives trailed the kidnappers into the Ogwashi-Uku bush, rescued the victim with gunshot injuries, and launched an intelligence-led operation that resulted in multiple arrests.
The suspects include Chukwuebuka Nka (25) of Nenwe, Aniri LGA, Enugu State, Uche Okechukwu of Amaifeke, Orlu LGA, Imo State and  Somto Chukwuma (18) of Ezea, Ihiala LGA, Anambra State.

The victim’s white Venza SUV was recovered from the first two suspects, who were arrested along Owerri Road in Anambra State. Based on further confessions, the operatives stormed the gang’s hideout in Agidiase Village, Ogwashi-Uku, where they recovered the suspects’ operational Toyota Matrix (Reg. No. RRT-331-AE) and a network jammer circuit device.

All suspects are in custody as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their professionalism and resilience. He warned that there will be no safe haven for criminals in the state and reiterated the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring peace and security across communities.
