The Delta State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the killing of retired High Court Judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, whose body was discovered on 24 November 2025 at her residence in Asaba.
According to the Command, the incident was reported by the victim’s brother, who arrived at her home only to find her lifeless body in the sitting room. Her hands, legs and mouth were bound. Officers from the ‘A’ Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, immediately visited the scene and evacuated the body to a mortuary for autopsy.
The police confirmed the arrest of one suspect, identified as Lucky Matthew, while the principal suspect, Godwin Vanem, is currently on the run. Preliminary findings indicate that Vanem is strongly believed to be responsible for the murder and fled the apartment after committing the act.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (Homicide Section) for thorough and discreet investigations. The command has also launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect.
CP Abaniwonda has extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and assured them that the command will ensure justice is served. He encouraged members of the public with useful information that could aid the investigation to contact the police through the Command’s emergency lines:
