The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities, resulting in the arrest of two suspected armed robbers and the recovery of a cache of illicit items, including a firearm and a getaway vehicle.
These breakthroughs, announced on Thursday, highlight the ongoing proactive policing strategy spearheaded by Commissioner of Police CP Yemi John Oyeniyi.
On March 31, 2026, at approximately 7:45 PM, operatives from the Agbor Division intercepted two men during a routine stop-and-search operation at College Junction. The suspects, identified as Julius Godday (31) and Mzemeke Peter (28), attempted to flee on their motorcycle upon spotting the police team. Following a brief pursuit, both men were apprehended.
A search of their persons yielded one locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun and two live cartridges. Preliminary investigations suggest the duo are members of the Eiye Confraternity and are linked to multiple motorcycle snatching incidents in the Agbor axis. The suspects remain in custody and are slated for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Asaba for further prosecution.
In a separate incident on March 30, police in Sapele responded to a tip-off regarding a suspicious Toyota Sienna bus allegedly transporting stolen property. Upon the arrival of the patrol team, the occupants of the vehicle abandoned the bus and escaped into a nearby forest.
The police recovered the vehicle along with vandalised iron materials and a gas cylinder found inside. The bus has been impounded at the station, and a manhunt is currently underway to track down the fleeing hoodlums.
Commissioner of Police Yemi John Oyeniyi lauded the gallantry of the officers involved in these operations. In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the CP reiterated the Command’s commitment to a safer Delta State.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with credible, timely information to ensure the total eradication of criminal elements.
