Army Deploys Additional Troops to Plateau Amid Rising Tensions

-

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of additional troops to Plateau State in a bid to curb escalating security concerns in parts of the state.

The deployment, carried out under Operation ENDURING PEACE, is aimed at reinforcing troops already on the ground to de-escalate tensions and restore law and order in affected communities.

Addressing personnel at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE in Jos, the COAS urged troops to uphold professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their duties.

He said, “You must remain professional, disciplined, and firm in dealing with criminal elements threatening the peace and security of law-abiding citizens.”

Lieutenant General Shaibu also assured the troops of adequate logistical support, noting that necessary combat enablers had been provided to ensure the success of their mission.

According to the Army, over 850 troops have been deployed from formations in Abuja and Kaduna to strengthen ongoing operations. The personnel have been tasked with protecting lives and property, as well as ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
