The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, arrived in Jos on Thursday, April 2, 2026, leading a high-powered delegation of security chiefs for an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Plateau State.
The visit, which underscores the military’s intensified efforts to restore order and entrench lasting peace, began with a strategic meeting at the Government House. The COAS was received by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Caleb Mutfwang, signifying a robust partnership between the state government and the military high command in tackling emerging threats.
Following the executive session, the COAS moved to the headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE. There, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, provided a comprehensive operational briefing. General Oyinlola detailed the proactive measures currently being implemented in synergy with other security agencies to stabilise affected communities and protect lives.
Reflecting on the mission’s objectives, Lieutenant General Shaibu emphasised the military’s dedication to the people of Plateau.
“Our presence here today is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Army to safeguarding all law-abiding citizens. We are working tirelessly to contain these threats, but we need the public to remain vigilant. I urge all residents to cooperate fully with ongoing operations and comply with the curfew while going about their lawful activities,” the COAS stated during an interaction with community stakeholders.
Local leaders expressed optimism following the visit. The Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Hon. Dachung Bagos, noted that the presence of the nation’s top military leadership provides a necessary boost to public morale.
“The timely arrival of the Chief of Army Staff reinforces trust in our security efforts. It sends a clear message that the government is serious about restoring normalcy to our streets,” Hon. Bagos remarked.
Further echoing this sentiment, the Councillor representing Naraguta ‘B’ Ward, Hon. Ladi Dangyok, described the high-level intervention as a vital lifeline for the people. “This swift response is a strong reassurance to our affected communities. We appreciate the Army’s visibility and its resolve to protect us,” she said.
The Nigerian Army, under General Shaibu’s leadership, continues to operate in close coordination with sister agencies and the state government. This unified front aims to strengthen community resilience and ensure that the “Home of Peace and Tourism” returns to a state of enduring security.
