Delta Police Rescues Kidnapped Toddler, Arrests Cult Suspect, Recovers Firearms

-

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on violent crime and cultism, resulting in the successful rescue of a kidnapped toddler, the arrest of two suspects, and the recovery of multiple firearms and illicit funds.

Operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS), Sector 2, Ughelli, rescued a three-year-old girl and apprehended a commercial motorcyclist, Kelvin Ogaga, who allegedly masterminded her abduction.

The victim’s father had lodged a complaint on May 18, 2026, stating that Ogaga, who was trusted with transporting the child to and from school daily, had kidnapped the toddler and demanded a ₦500,000 ransom.

The family ultimately paid the ransom to secure the child’s release. However, utilising credible technical intelligence, police operatives tracked down and stormed Ogaga’s hideout in Ughelli. During the arrest, officers recovered ₦127,000 in cash, suspected to be part of the ransom money, alongside the motorcycle used in the crime and several valuables believed to have been purchased with the illicit proceeds. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, proactive policing measures led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol along the Power Line axis by Bonsaac. Operatives from the Department of Operations’ Buffalo Team were conducting a routine patrol when they spotted a suspicious man carrying a black bag. The suspect fled upon spotting the officers, abandoning his bag during the pursuit.

A search of the bag revealed a Beretta pistol and an iPhone, and a manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

In a separate development in Ozoro, township patrol officers from the Ozoro Division intercepted a suspect named Michael Monday on Omovutotu Street. Monday attempted to flee when he sighted the police team, but he was quickly cornered.

A search of his black handbag yielded a locally made cut-to-size single-barrelled gun and a live cartridge. Preliminary investigations indicate that Monday is a suspected member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, widely known as “Aro Bagger.” He is currently being held in police custody pending further investigation.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their swift actions and robust response to criminal activities.

He emphasised that routine stop-and-search operations remain a vital component of proactive policing and directly contributed to the seizure of two dangerous firearms. Commissioner Oyeniyi assured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents, while urging community members to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious behaviour or individuals to the authorities.
