…Security agencies say rescue operation is still ongoing

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that students, pupils, and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area have been freed, insisting that the victims remain in captivity.

In a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command described the reports as false. It urged the public to disregard them, warning that the spread of misinformation was hampering ongoing rescue efforts.

“The abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Orire Local Government Area are yet to be released,” the statement read. “Intensive efforts by security agencies continue to ensure their safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible for the criminal act.”

The Command said spreading unverified information not only causes unnecessary panic but also diverts security resources critical to the operation.

Members of the public were advised to remain calm and verify information before sharing it, and to channel inquiries through official contacts. The Command pledged to provide verified updates as developments unfold.

Those seeking authentic information can reach the Police Public Relations Office or the Command’s control room on 08081768614 or 09054133071. The Oyo State Emergency Number is 615.
