The Delta State Police Command has dealt a blow to violent crime in the state, dismantling a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating within the Ughelli axis and recovering high-calibre weaponry.
The breakthrough is part of a series of successful operations led by CP Aina Adesola, aimed at purging the state of kidnappers, gun runners, and other criminal elements.
Following a rigorous interrogation by the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), three suspects identified as Usman Ayuba (22), Ibrahim Abubakar (22), and Haruna Dahiru, alias “Bodere” (23), confessed to their roles in a string of abductions.
The suspects led operatives into the dense bush along the Iyede axis over a two-day period. On February 26, 2026, police recovered a magazine loaded with 25 rounds of live ammunition. The following afternoon, a hidden AK-47 rifle was unearthed at the gang’s hideout.
Confirming the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, noted that the gang’s luck ran out after they were identified by a former victim.
“The suspects were positively identified by a female victim who was abducted on February 4 at Olu Avenue, Ughelli. She was only released after her family paid a ransom of ₦2,000,000,” Edafe stated. “They are currently in custody as we expand our investigation.”
In a separate incident on February 27, operatives of the Dragon Patrol Team intercepted 55-year-old Shuabu Adams during a routine stop-and-search near Western Delta University along the Abraka-Oghara axis.
Upon searching the suspect, police discovered a locally made cut-to-size gun and two live cartridges. The weapon was found cleverly concealed inside a pullover bag, leading to the suspect’s immediate arrest.
Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, praised the gallantry, discipline, and professionalism of the officers involved in these successful operations. He issued a stern warning to those intending to use the state as a base for illicit activities.
“Delta State will not serve as a haven for kidnappers, gun runners, or drug traffickers,” the CP reiterated. “Our success relies on the partnership between the police and the public. We urge residents to continue providing credible and timely information.”
The Command maintains that community vigilance remains the most critical pillar in their ongoing fight to ensure the safety of all Deltans.
