On 4th September 2025, the Kebbi State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, received a complaint of theft involving gold jewellery valued at over One Hundred and Nine Million, Five Hundred and Seventy-Eight Thousand Naira (₦109,578,000).
Investigations revealed that sometime between 2024 and 2025, unknown persons unlawfully entered the residence of one Hajiya Rabi in Ka’oje town, Bagudo LGA, Kebbi State, and stole five gold necklaces, nine gold bangles, and four gold rings, weighing a cumulative total of 782.7g. The items belonged to her daughter, Hajiya Amina Hassan Bello, and her siblings.
Following the report, detectives swiftly launched an investigation and arrested one Ibrahim Abubakar Ka’oje, an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, who confessed to the crime. He further revealed that the stolen items were sold to Sa’adu Ibrahim Darhami and Hamza Ahmad, both of Sokoto State; Nasiru Sani of Birnin Kebbi; and Tasi’u Umar of Zauro town, Birnin Kebbi LGA.
Further investigation showed that Ibrahim Abubakar was assisted by one Ibrahim Usman Oroji in disposing part of the stolen items, for which Oroji received ₦2.5 million as his share of the proceeds. Similarly, one Mustapha Hassan and others still at large helped conceal the remaining proceeds by facilitating the purchase of two plots of land in Birnin Kebbi metropolis.
So far, detectives have recovered the following exhibits: two gold bangles, one Haojue motorcycle, an iPhone 16, a Samsung Galaxy Ultra, and a Samsung Flip device.
Commending the breakthrough, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, praised the promptness, professionalism, and intelligence-driven approach of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID Birnin Kebbi, and his team of detectives.
The CP urged the officers to sustain the momentum, ensure the arrest of the remaining suspects, and recover more stolen property. He further reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating violent crimes and ensuring a safe and secure environment across Kebbi State.
