The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has commended motorists and residents for their patience, resilience, and understanding in coping with the traffic diversions caused by the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge corridor.
Speaking during an inspection visit to Ifako on Thursday, Bakare-Oki addressed concerns raised by road users, assuring them of the project’s quality and timely completion.
He stressed that the reconstruction was being executed under strict international standards and would be delivered within the timeframe earlier announced by the Lagos State Government.
“I deeply empathise with our people over the inconveniences brought about by this diversion. Nonetheless, this rehabilitation is a critical intervention by the government to safeguard lives, strengthen the bridge’s structural integrity, and improve commuting along this vital corridor,” he stated.
The LASTMA boss praised Lagosians for their cooperation and the adjustments they have made to their daily routines, describing such discipline as a reflection of the resilience and collective spirit of the state.
He also commended LASTMA personnel stationed at diversion points and across strategic routes for their professionalism, noting that no complaints had been recorded against their conduct.
Reaffirming the Authority’s commitment, Bakare-Oki said LASTMA officers remain fully deployed to manage traffic, ease congestion, guide motorists, and provide real-time interventions throughout the rehabilitation period.
He urged road users to continue obeying traffic directives, describing the temporary inconvenience as an investment in a safer, stronger, and more modern transport infrastructure for Lagos.
“Our toll-free hotline, 080000527862, remains available for the prompt reporting of traffic obstructions, emergencies, accidents, or any other incident requiring LASTMA’s immediate intervention,” he added.
