Doctor Arrested After Carrying Out Abortion, Causing Death Of Staff Member

-

The Chief Medical Director of Full Life Medical Centre, Dr. Sunday Okon Akpan, has been discovered to be a fake doctor after he performed an abortion on his staff, Blessing Sunday Etim, which led to her death.

On August 19, 2025, at about 09:30 am, Grace Sunday Etim, a female native of Ikot Iyan village, came to the station and reported that she was called by her daughter’s co-tenant.

The co-tenant informed her that her daughter, Blessing Sunday Etim, 35, who worked at Full Life Medical Centre in Ikot Obio Odong village, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, was dead.

Grace Sunday Etim further stated that Blessing’s employer, one Doctor Sunday Okon Akpan, a resident of Afaha Offiong village in Nsit Ibom, brought the lifeless body of Blessing Sunday Etim in a secretive manner and attempted to break into the deceased’s room to dump the corpse there.

When he was challenged by others, he dropped the corpse and fled the scene.

Upon receiving the information, detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene. A close observation of the corpse revealed a premature baby partially emerging from her private part.

An intelligence operation was initiated, which led to the arrest of the so-called Doctor Sunday.

Preliminary investigation suggests the victim died as a result of a suspected illegal abortion conducted by the arrested man.

The suspect, Sunday Okon Akpan, who claimed to be the owner of Full Life Medical Centre, is alleged to have been operating as a fake medical doctor.

Further investigation confirms that he is not a qualified nurse or doctor but rather a Community Health Practitioner.

He opened and operated the medical centre, known as Full Life Medical Centre, at Ikot Obio Odongo village, Ibesikpo, offering medical services and allegedly serving as a centre for conducting illegal abortions. He also reportedly trained auxiliary nurses.

The health centre was subsequently visited but was found deserted.

The corpse of the deceased, Blessing Sunday Etim, has been deposited at God’s Own Mortuary at Mbak Ekpe for preservation and a comprehensive autopsy.
