Enugu Police Intensifies Onslaught Against Criminality, Arrests 8 Suspects, Recovers 8 Snatched Vehicles

-

The Enugu State Police Command has sustained its onslaught against criminality, recording significant breakthroughs in multiple operations.

These successes, which include the arrest of eight (8) robbery suspects and the recovery of eight (8) stolen or snatched vehicles and other exhibits, demonstrate the Command’s unwavering commitment to ridding the State of criminal elements.

On 21st August 2025, at about 9:30 a.m., operatives of the Command’s SWAT arrested three suspects: Eze Obinna (male, aged 44), Jideofor Igwumba (male, aged 35), and Martina Okwor Ada (female, aged 49).

A Toyota Kluger (Highlander SUV), reportedly stolen at Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, on 21st July 2025, refurbished, and already being prepared for sale in Awka, Anambra State, was recovered from them.

Similarly, on 19th August 2025, at about 1:30 a.m., operatives attached to Ozalla Division intercepted suspected criminals along the Udi/Ozalla Road and arrested one of them, Somadina Udeh (male, aged 26), while others escaped. The criminal gang’s operational vehicle, a Toyota Hiace bus with Delta registration number ASB 108 YF, was recovered from the suspect. Meanwhile, the fleeing suspects abandoned another Toyota Hiace bus with Ebonyi registration number AKL 163 YU, which they had earlier stolen from where it was parked at Amokwe in Udi LGA. Upon interrogation, the arrested suspect confessed to burglary, admitting that he and his fleeing accomplices usually infiltrated Enugu from Anambra State to steal goods from shops and later sell them in Anambra.

In another development, on 12th August 2025, at about 5:30 a.m., operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Chigozie Ebisike (male, aged 42). A blue Toyota Corolla was immediately recovered from him in Ogui, Enugu, following intelligence received through the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre, which had earlier captured the vehicle being used to snatch a Toyota Camry 2.2 on 3rd August 2025 at about 7:54 a.m., along Rangers Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu.

The suspect confessed to car stealing and snatching, which led to the recovery of two more vehicles: a gold Toyota Sienna minivan with Lagos registration number BDG 935 GP, a black Lexus 350 with Enugu registration number UWN 762 AH, as well as several vehicle registration particulars, keys, and number plates.

Earlier, on 8th August 2025, at about 11:10 a.m., operatives of the Crack Tactical Squad, leveraging intelligence, arrested three male suspects: Nwafor Chinenye (aged 35), Chidera Ezeoha (aged 32), and Ekete Joseph (aged 41). Their arrest followed a report of an armed robbery in which a Carter Tec Super motorcycle and a Samsung Galaxy S8 phone were snatched from their victims on 7th August 2025 at Amokpu-Nike in Enugu East LGA. The stolen motorcycle, alongside another, was recovered from the suspects, who had displayed them for sale at Ogbeke-Nike, Enugu East LGA. The suspects have since been arraigned and remanded in a correctional facility.

The other arrested suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicates and recover additional exhibits.

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, commends the gallant efforts of the operatives involved in these feats. He reassures residents of the Command’s determination to sustain the tempo of crime-fighting and urges law-abiding citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected criminals and distress situations to the Police.
