The Edo State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of passengers following a foiled kidnapping attempt along the Benin–Abraka Road on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
According to police reports, armed kidnappers intercepted a commercial bus belonging to Muyi Line Transport Company at a failed portion of the road near the NNPC Pipeline axis. The suspects reportedly opened fire on the vehicle, forcing the driver to stop. A distress call was quickly relayed to Ugo Division, prompting a rapid response from operatives who engaged the criminals in a gun battle. Outmatched by the police’s superior firepower, the kidnappers fled into the surrounding bush.
All passengers were rescued, though one victim, identified as Mr Isaac Olotu Temitope from Ado-Ekiti, sustained a pellet injury to his right toe. He was treated at Ugo Health Centre and discharged to continue his journey.
Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, has deployed reinforcement teams from the command headquarters to track down the fleeing suspects. He praised the swift action and bravery of the officers involved, assuring residents and travellers of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. #Securitynewsalert.com
