Eight arrested during cult initiation in Enugu as Police recover cartridges

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested eight suspected cultists during an initiation ceremony in the state and recovered cartridges.

The operation was carried out by operatives serving in Udi Police Division of the Command, with active assistance from personnel of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, on 12th of March 2023, at about 1.30 pm.

The state’s spokesman, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Daniel Ndukwe, confirming the arrests and recovery of cartridges, said: “At least eight men were arrested, while others escaped during a cult initiation process in a forest at Obinagu in Udi Local Government Area.

“The suspects include: one Igwe Joseph, 34, Nze Kingsley, 33, Emmanuel Egbu, 37, Akachukwu Davidson, 24, Nnamani Collins, 40, Onaga Linus, 28, Eze Chinaza, 29 and Mkpadi Joseph, 27. Seven expended cartridges, an ENTRACO-branded Mini Bus, four tricycles and several empty cartons of Squadron drink used for the initiation were recovered. The case is undergoing further discreet investigation at the Command’s Anti-cultism Squad and will be charged to court once concluded.”
