Eleven Fighters Surrender in Borno Offensive as Nigerian Troops Decimate Terrorist Enclaves

-

In a significant blow to insurgent operations in the North East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have overran several high-profile Boko Haram and ISWAP camps, forcing a wave of surrenders and neutralising multiple fighters during a weekend of intense offensive operations.

The military breakthrough, part of the ongoing Operation DESERT SANITY V, saw the destruction of notorious tactical bases and the recovery of heavy weaponry across various volatile axes in Borno State.

On January 9, 2026, troops launched a large-scale clearance operation targeting the Bulaagalda cluster. The mission resulted in the total dismantling of active terrorist camps in Dagumba, Bonne, Yaganari, Gosuri, and Umchile.

Most notably, the military successfully destroyed the Abu Nazir and Abu Ahmed camps, which had served as key command centres for the insurgents.

“During the operation, troops dismantled life-support structures, degraded terrorist logistics, and recovered items including terrorist flags, weapons, and magazines,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North East).

Similar raids in the Yale and Bula Gaida areas forced several insurgents to flee their positions, abandoning a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and various logistics facilities.

The sustained pressure along the Azir–Wajiroko axis proved decisive on January 10. Eleven (11) terrorist fighters, unable to withstand the military onslaught, laid down their arms and surrendered to the frontline troops, handing over their AK-47 rifles and assorted ammunition.

In a separate engagement fueled by credible intelligence, troops intercepted JAS/ISWAP elements moving between Sojiri and Kayamla villages.

“The encounter resulted in the neutralisation of eight terrorists and the recovery of AK-47 rifles,” Uba confirmed.

Beyond the battlefield, the military is also targeting the support networks that keep the insurgency alive. In Gubio Local Government Area, troops apprehended two suspected logistics collaborators accused of supplying essential materials to the terrorists in the bush.

The military command emphasised that these operations are part of a broader strategy to permanently destabilise terrorist networks in the region.

“Troops remain resolute in sustaining offensive pressure, dismantling terrorist networks, and restoring lasting peace and security across the North East region,” the statement concluded.
